İstanbul Grand Bazaar

15.02.2022
İstanbul Grand Bazaar

In the past, the sense of trust in the shopkeepers caused the people's money to be given to them and run like a bank. Today, shops on many streets have undergone a change in function. Occupational groups such as quilt makers, slippers and fez makers remained only as street names. There are mostly jewelery shops on the street, which is considered the main street of the bazaar, and there are sixth shops on a side street that leads here. These shops, which are quite small, sell at different prices and bargains. Although the Grand Bazaar preserves its former vitality in terms of color and attraction, shopping opportunities for tourist groups visiting Istanbul since the 1970s are provided by modern and large establishments at the main entrance of the bazaar. The Spice Bazaar on the shore of the Golden Horn is also a smaller covered bazaar. Another small covered bazaar dating back to the 15th century is still in use in the Galata district.
The Grand Bazaar is lively and crowded at all hours of the day. Shopkeepers persistently invite visitors to their store. The comfortable, big stores that develop at the entrance of the bazaar offer almost all the goods produced and exported in Turkey for sale. Handmade carpets and jewelery are the best examples of traditional Turkish art. These are sold with certificates of quality and origin and guaranteed shipping all over the world. In addition to carpets and jewellery, famous Turkish works made of silver, copper, bronze souvenirs and decorative items, ceramics, onyx and leather, high quality, Turkey memorabilia form a rich collection. Western writers have allocated a large place to the Grand Bazaar in their travel books and memoirs.
In addition to shopping in Istanbul's oldest bazaar, you will see that everything sold here reflects the ancient spirit of Istanbul.
