Sabiha Gökçen International Airport is the second airport of Istanbul, built within the borders of Pendik district. The airport was named after Sabiha Gökçen, the world's first female fighter pilot and Turkey's first female pilot. The Green Airport Project, which was initiated by the General Directorate of Civil Aviation in June 2009 and aims to systematically reduce and, if possible, eliminate the environmental damage caused by the organizations operating at the airports, was developed in December 2010 by adding new regulations. The project is encouraged across the sector by making 20% discount on the revalidation fees of permit documents such as authorization certificates, licenses and certificates for enterprises that successfully fulfill the project requirements and have been awarded the title of "Green Organization" by the General Directorate of Civil Aviation. Within the scope of the Green Airport Project, ISG Investment Construction and Management Inc. has created a modern and environmentally friendly terminal management model by investing in advanced technology, physical infrastructure and trained manpower in a way that will cause the least damage to the environment. It has been awarded the title of "Green Organization".
