Kayakoy

Kayakoy
Kayaköy is a historical settlement built on the slope of a hill. This village, which dates back to the Greeks, was abandoned with the population exchange in 1923 and Turks started to live here. However, after the Turks could not get used to it, they migrated to different parts of the country and the village was abandoned to its fate. The village was badly damaged by the 1957 Fethiye Earthquake and was never repaired. When you visit Kayaköy, you feel like you are walking around in a ghost town. The sad stance of the houses was the thing that impressed us the most.
Karmylassos is a part of the Lycian civilization on the Teke Peninsula. You can understand its history dating back to 3000 BC from the sarcophagi and rock tombs located on the wide plain that the village overlooks. Located 8km south of Fethiye, known as Telmessos in ancient times, the village was built towards the end of the 19th century on Lycian ruins. In the village, there were also buildings of living standards such as chapels and schools. Mostly Greeks lived in the village. While the Greeks call this village Levissi, the Turks call it Taşlıköy.
