Atarneus Ancient City

The ancient city of Atarneus, located in and around Ağılkale, with the center of Dikili, was founded by the Akha people in the 4th millennium BC. Archaeological excavations are carried out in a limited way in the city, which was named Atarnetus, which means sacred spring or mother goddess source, due to the many hot water springs and springs around the region where it was founded. The number of remains from the city, which was abandoned due to epidemics, is very small.
