Capital Ankara

Capital AnkaraAnkara is the capital and one of the most significant cities of Turkey. With its geographical location, historical richness, and modern lifestyle, Ankara attracts numerous tourists. The history of Ankara dates back to ancient times. Traces of many civilizations such as the Hittites, Phrygians, Lydians, and Persians can be found in this region. However, the city gained particular importance during the Roman Empire period. In 25 B.C., Ankara was declared the capital by the Roman Emperor Augustus and named Ancyra. Many historical remnants from this period are showcased in museums and open-air areas throughout the city. Throughout its history, Ankara also experienced the Byzantine and Seljuk periods. However, with the conquest of the Ottoman Empire, the capital duty shifted to Istanbul. With the proclamation of the Republic, on October 13, 1923, Ankara became the capital of Turkey. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey, chose Ankara as the capital due to its strategic location and inland position.
